All the glory went to my silver punch cups in this post; I didn't share the other goodies that made it into my card that day at the Goodwill Store.



Every item seemed to be silver... or gold. Except for the lidded glass jar with the fleur de lis design engraved in it. I have a few of those; they hold craft supplies at the moment. I like glass storage like this so much better than plastic bins and containers; a bit more style, don't you think?

The pot will hold something green for my island; I am ready to change up that space as the little hydrangea bouquet I had has seen better days. The candlestick will work nicely on my dressing table for a touch of glamour. Those punch cups reside in my laundry room and I may just head back to the store tomorrow to see if the rest of the set remains on the shelf for me to bring home.

I am always looking at vintage silver in antique and thrift stores and bring quite a few pieces home. One day when my pottery butter dish was in the dishwasher and I needed a place to stash a new stick, I realized I had a vintage silver butter dish of my mothers that would work quite nicely.

I have several pieces of silver of my mothers, which until recently, were tucked away in a cabinet.  As I admired the shiny presence of this butter dish on my counter each day I came to the realization that I have other pieces like this that don't deserve to be stored away; they too should be out each and every day to be enjoyed.



I've repurposed this casserole dish base to hold a stack of my every day plates.  This was a thrift store piece. It was sold as is without the original dish, it was less than $2. I haven't polished it up as yet; I don't mind the tarnished look.


 This beautiful bowl is Waterford crystal, a gift from my mother-in-law. I've decided it's too pretty to keep in the china cabinet and instead it now holds tea packets on the counter.


This cut glass bowl was a flea market find. I've used it for salads, as an ice bowl and now to hold Clementine oranges. I'm on a mission to bring my heirlooms out of the cabinet and into everyday use! The time to enjoy these gifts is every day!

I passed up tons of vintage goodies on my recent thrifting weekend I blogged about {read it here}. I did manage to come home with some goodies, most of them pretty small as I already had a van full of my daughter's dorm stuff and a large dog crate holding Marley, one of my golden retrievers.


Many of my purchases ended up on my mantel.  In my last post I mentioned that everything gold in the shops was catching my eye... this was the first gold item I saw. It was a simple metal candle base. Something about the filigree pattern, gold color and the fact that I have a thing for metal bases {remember this post?} made me put this in my cart. Did I mention it was 50 cents?
Then I saw this large brass candlabra and my theme of gold was definitely on a roll! Its very tall and was in great shape and only $3. See how price has influenced these purchases? That, and they were all very easy to fit in the car. I do regret passing on that $25 vintage dresser, but it wouldn't fit in the car! As I've made my way through many thrift and antique shops, flea markets and tag sales, I've realized there will always be another piece of furniture at a great price!


This mirror above was my favorite find that I brought home. It's a beautiful vintage mirror in an engraved gold. frame... for $7. One of the many blogs or decorating magazines that I read... can't remember which one at the moment, had an article that mentioned the beauty of vintage mirrors. They can light up a room through reflection; many times prettier than any painting. The reflection from a light or window is multiplied in their presence.


I love cut glass and crystal. The sparkle and reflection created by the design is so pretty to me. I knew that this little piece would be perfect to hold a small tea light. I think it's actually an egg cup, but the size is perfect for one of these little candles.


I gathered these items and brought some things I already owned, including a sprig of flowers from Hobby Lobby and a Longaberger vase and bowl and one of my pretty Mary planters {a previous thrift store purchase}.




I'm enjoying all the gold and white on this late spring mantel and also the memories these treasures hold from my trip to see my daughters on mother's day weekend.

Vintage Inspiration Friday

I filled my vintage salt and pepper shakers this afternoon.  These are some of my favorites. Of course the round one steals the show--it holds some of Martha Stewart's crystal glitter.

I decided not to shine the tops of the shakers. Although some of them are dark and dull, the glitter and the glass steal the show.


Even though I usually look for silver tops, this pair had such pretty glass texture and shape I couldn't resist. I decided to fill them with white and black glitter, traditional salt and pepper colors.



Of the colored glitters, this light green is probably my favorite. I put it in a special bottle, this one is quite shapely and the cut is really pretty.



I made little paper funnels to get the glitter in the tiny openings. It was a little messy, but in a sparkly kind of way, so that was fine with me! I usually end up with glitter on my clothes and then it gets on my hands and face... but I really don't mind. It beats the dirt after working in the garden.



Some of the shakers are so tiny, but glitter really lasts such a long time and I have lots in little plastic bottles that I was so happy to repackage.

Carrie at In the Hammock, Miss Char and Ann@A Sentimental Life all made comments about the silver tray I featured the glitter on in my Glitter Shakers Part 1 post, so I decided to keep them displayed this way. It will make my studio craft space so much more glamorous! A girl's gotta have some fun, right?
